Tackers Sail Training Program Melbourne Victoria Australia
Program 1, Week 8, 18 April 2009
Well the weather was perfect for our last day on the water - but I must admit, I was a little sad that this would be our last day of the very first Tackers Sail Training Program at Mordialloc Sailing Club.
There are lots of extra photos this week as Richard was able to take his camera on the rubber ducky.
We started by running two laps around the sailing club (to get our bodies warmed up as the air temperature was a bit cool). It was then time to get out on the water and chase tennis balls around!
Yes, the boat that collected the most tennis balls (without bumping another boat) was going to win a prize. In fact if any boats touched, they both had to throw out their balls and start again.
When trying to get to the balls the quickest, some boats did not follow sailing rules (port and starboard tack, windward boat etc) but everyone agreed it was fun.
Several boats changed skippers and crew. Several Tackers also had an opportunity to go on the rubber duckies and some Tackers had the chance to sail on their own.
It was really great to see Isabella go back into a boat after having a rest on the rescue boat. It was also good to see some Tackers controlling their boat very well and putting it into the wind as they were approached by the rubber ducky.
After coming in, packing up the boats and having a shower, it was time for the official proceedings. The Commodore, Crawford Wintersgill and Andy Rae were on hand to help hand out Certificates of Appreciation to various Mordialloc Sailing Club Members and parents - THANK YOU for your help:

It was then time to hand out the Log Books to Tackers. Most Tackers completed all of the components of Basic Skills One and some completed parts of Basic Skills Two. Please keep your log books safe for your future sail training achievements.
What is next?
A follow on Tackers program for people on this course will start on Saturday 3 October 2009 for eight weeks. If you would like to reserve your space, you need to pay a $100 deposit by 30 June 2009 and the balance by 31 August 2009. We really hope you can come back and be part of more sailing fun at Mordialloc Sailing Club - remember that Sailors get WET and Tackers have FUN.
Everyone is invited to join the Parma Night at the sailing club on Saturday 2 May 2009 from 6pm onwards. There will be great games and DVD's for kids - so invite your friends!
