Newcomers Network in Dublin and London We hosted an Expatriate Business Networking event for businesspeople in the industry associated with newcomers, migrants and expatriates and a Welcome to Dublin event last Thursday and in a few hours, Tim and I will be hosting the same events in London
Expatriate Archive
Whilst visiting an expat fair in Amsterdam on Sunday, I learnt about the Expatriate Archive. If you have stories, letters, documents etc you would like stored (and they will make a digital copy for you), please contact them http://www.xpatarchive.com
Culture of Melbourne
In Paris this week I noticed that the chairs in outdoor cafes face the street - but in London, the seats face the other people on the table. What does this say about their culture? What curious cultural differences have you noticed since moving to Melbourne? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_of_Melbourne
Get Networking
Our international launch was mentioned on the Get Networking website - which is also a useful resource if you would like to network in Australia, particularly if you are a woman. You can see our story in the Features section http://www.getnetworking.com.au
Research Project
As mentioned previously, our research project on the topic of newcomers and technology will be starting in November. We will have a 20 question online survey and we hope that you and your friends will have a few moments to provide your answers so that we can prepare a useful resource at the end of the project
Australia is home
Whilst travelling overseas, I have been constantly aware of pickpockets and pushy salespeople. I hope that Newcomers Network continues to provide you with useful information on settling in Melbourne and making friends as they are the real key to a successful transition. You can also connect with other people through interest specific Meetup Groups http://www.meetup.com
You are encouraged to send this email to anyone who may find the information useful
Enjoy your week and cheers for now
