homeinformation > all categories > what's on

In Friday's EG section of The Age newspaper (sorted into many categories).

In your local free Leader newspaper delivered to your letterbox, local library or newsagent - look for the 'What's On' section (free listing service for community events).

On the VICNET website - sorts by date or name (wide variety - some unusual)

On the CitySearch website and their partner website This Week in Melbourne..

For Business Events around the State of Victoria, with many low cost government subsidised events, please visit http://www.business.vic.gov.au/calendar

On the Mix 101.1 FM website - sorted by what's on in the city, suburbs, major events, concerts

There is a fee for subscription service that lists thousands of events in Victoria at http://www.whatsoninvic.com

On your local council website or local council newsletter - for example, the City of Melbourne or the That's Melbourne sites are comprehensive and you can collect various publications at Visitor Information Centres or information booths in the city.

Local events are often advertised in local libraries, council offices, school newsletters, church notices, neighbourhood houses, learning centres, shopping centre noticeboards or any facility that has clients who may be interested in that type of event (for instance gyms may have details of upcoming sporting competitions).

Look in relevant publications that appeal to your interests - they often list events that are coming up - for instance Melbourne's Child has a Calendar of Events.

Subscribe to some free email newsletters from an organisation that you are interested in - they often list events.

If you are interested in movies, theatre productions etc, look up the venue's website or go to the theatre and entertainment booking agency websites like Lastminute, Ticketmaster, Ticketek etc

Would you like to provide some advice to other newcomers to Melbourne? If so, please send an email to info@newcomersnetwork.com and include WHAT'S ON in the subject line. We will publish the most helpful advice here!
