29/8/10 Welcome to the AFL - Melbourne versus North Melbourne Free Tickets meet at 4:15pm
Sunday 29 August 2010
FREE EVENT - entry provided by AFL Multicultural Program

1. Background
On 23 August 2010, Sue Ellson from Newcomers Network received an invitation from Nick Hatzoglou, Multicultural Project Coordinator of the Australian Football League (AFL) inviting newcomers to Melbourne to attend the Melbourne http://www.melbournefc.com.au (red and blue) versus North Melbourne http://www.kangaroos.com.au (blue and white) game at the MCG on Sunday 29 August 2010.
Please register using the form below immediately (please remember to add in the details of any extra guests coming with you) - if you would like individual email confirmations, please register each person separately.
Everyone receiving one of these free tickets (including people from other groups), will be meeting on the grassed area just below the steps at the MCG
Gate 6 at 4:15pm.

I will be standing near the trees next to Brunton Avenue (blue cross in map above) and hold up a sign saying 'Newcomers Network' so that you can sit with other people that you may have already met at other Newcomers Network events.
You need to arrive at this spot by 4:15pm.
Please allow extra time for public transport or parking as with large crowds, there can be delays. Melways map 2G D7
Everyone is welcome and in particular, if you are coming as part of a group, please say hello to at least one other person as some people are coming on their own and it can be daunting to meet a large group when you don’t know anyone – in other words, please be FRIENDLY to others who are coming – smiling and chatting helps a lot.
You may also like to bring your own personal card if you would like to share your phone number or email address with someone you meet.
We also have a number of children who are coming – it might be a good idea to bring some extra entertainment if they find the game boring.
If for any reason you cannot find Sue Ellson personally, phone 0402 243 271 or contact Nick Hatzoglou 0425 733 105.
Everyone who comes will be met by a representative of the AFL or the competing clubs. The AFL will cover the cost of entry into the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Please make your own arrangements for dinner and dress in anticipation of a cold afternoon / evening. You cannot enter the MCG with glass bottles or umbrellas. Seating will be in the public section of the new stand (could be up high) and undercover seating is available.
When you sit down, please do not leave any gaps so that more people can be seated.
The game commences at 4:40pm (but you must arrive by 4:15pm).
See the MCG website for ways to reach the MCG by train, tram, bike, car, bus, walking and taxi http://www.mcg.org.au/Events/Travelling%20to%20the%20G.aspx
The venue is closest to Richmond Railway Station (you can see this in the bottom right hand corner of the map above).
If you would like to learn more about the rules of the game, you can download the Welcome to the AFL Booklet that explains the basics in 17 languages. This booklet and many other resources can be found at http://www.afl.com.au/multicultural/tabid/10286/default.aspx
Once again, thanks to the AFL for providing this opportunity – I sincerely hope that you and any friends of family members attending will have a great time. Please be friendly and chat to the people around you – it is a wonderful way to meet new people!
