Our Approach

The Problem

With global skills shortages reaching near epic proportions, organisations are readily looking to offshore markets to recruit the best talent.

Despite weighty costs associated with dynamic recruitment policies (often involving overseas expos), expatriate relocation, weighty expatriate financial packages and extensive training programs, organisations struggle to retain this highly-skilled and highly-valuable human resource.

Expatriate attrition is more than double that of non-expatriates[1] and 21% of expats who leave do so before the end of their contracts.[2]

In two thirds[3] of cases, expatriates' premature resignation occurs because their families are unhappy operating in new environments but a personal inability to adapt to a new work culture is almost equally prevalent.

Repatriation causes even greater problems, with over 27% of returning employees resigning within the first year after re-entry and a further 25% over the following 12 months[4].

To improve retention rates and to prevent skilled expatriates from feeling they are taking potential professional and family risks by accepting overseas assignments, it is essential that employers understand how best to support and manage them.

Our unique solution

Every individual has different preferences, motivators, approaches, needs, inspirations and goals, complicated further by their personal cultural beliefs and backgrounds.

Our flexible and uniquely tailored approach takes clients' cultural backgrounds and beliefs into account and ensures that coaching solutions are aligned with clients' deepest values and motivations ensuring sustainable results.

We firmly believe that people are naturally highly resourceful and need their working environments to nurture this ability. In turn employees remain engaged, involved and empowered by the work that they do and by the company they work for.

What is coaching?

• Coaching is 100% about helping you, the coaching client, to realise your true potential and to achieve the outcomes you want.

• We work wholly from your perspective and cultural background, understand how you are motivated, what your strengths and weaknesses might be and seek to improve both.

• We help you to explore where you are now, where you want to be and what goals and actions you need to execute to ensure that you get there.

• With coaching you will gain clarity of what is stopping you from attaining the results you desire, question your current way of thinking and overcome those barriers.

• The coaching relationship is supportive yet challenging; we provide you with honest but constructive feedback to help you realise your true capabilities.

• We take a non-judgmental standpoint and provide 100% confidentiality; only in this kind of environment will you truly flourish.

Why does our approach get results?

1. Experienced: Rebecca has worked with clients from an array of countries worldwide. Her results-focused approach supports, challenges and inspires her clients towards greater success.

2. Flexible: every individual has different needs, approaches, preferences, motivators, inspirations and goals, complicated further by different cultural beliefs and backgrounds. Rebecca's flexible and uniquely tailored approach ensures that coaching solutions are aligned with clients' deepest values and motivations ensuring sustainable results.

3. Long term: coaching is not a quick fix solution. We focus on creating key belief and behavioural changes which can take time to establish but the results are far more sustainable.

4. Empowering: coaching is so effective because solutions are ultimately arrived at by the client, greatly enhancing their motivation to succeed.

5. Supportive: effective personal development does not happen in the flash of an eye and it is essential that clients feel fully supported. Rebecca provides clients with unmitigated support throughout, in between and after their coaching programs.

6. Humour: personal development need not be staid, dull and unimaginative. Rebecca's approach to coaching is inspiring, inclusive, mind-expanding and good fun.

1. What is coaching?

Coaching can drastically improve your performance in any given area of your life by exploring where you are now, where you want to be in the future and how to get you there.

In a basic sense, this is achieved by your coach guiding you to set challenging yet achievable goals and plan actions that will lead to an accomplishment of these goals.

Through the use of specialist questioning techniques and various coaching tools, your coach will help raise your awareness of what’s currently stopping you from attaining the results you desire and move you forwards. Fundamentally, coaching is about achieving specific, quantifiable results to help you realise your true potential.

The coaching process is unique in a number of ways:

* it is 100% non-judgmental and objective
* with the support of the coach, the client decides his/her own outcomes and actions
* clients see results after just one session - no need for long winded and costly programs
* programs are designed to inspire and energise the client into actions they enjoy
* clients stay motivated so results are highly sustainable

2. What is cross cultural coaching?

It is increasingly common for companies and individuals to operate in international environments, working with team members or clients originating from different cultural backgrounds.

We combine traditional personal performance coaching with cross cultural insight ensuring that people new to a different cultural environments adapt more effectively, multicultural teams operate more cohesively and managers of expatriate talent understand how to get best performance from those individuals.

We firmly believe that 'one size' does not fit all. Traditional 'Western' coaching methodologies and approaches are highly effective but fail to take into account cultural difference. Our approach is highly unique in that it is adaptive to all aspects of our clients' preferences, crucially including cultural nuances.

3. How does coaching gets results?

Coaching is so powerful because it works with your belief system and values. This means that all final solutions are aligned with what is most important to you, greatly enhancing your motivational drive.

Coaching is a long term solution. It focuses on creating key behavioural changes replacing bad habits that don't serve you with positive, life-changing patterns of behaviour. As with any habitual behaviour, it takes time to nurture and establish but the results are far more sustainable.

4. Is coaching the same as counselling or mentoring?

Coaching is not counselling or therapy. The fundamental difference is that a counsellor would ask you to talk about your past as a means of helping you come to terms with your current situation. In coaching, we are only interested in the present and how that can be bettered to achieve a more successful, happier future.

Coaching is not mentoring. This is a process whereby you would seek advice from a more experienced person or ‘mentor’.

This mentor would use their experience of the world to offer you advice to help solve your issue.

5. What does an actual coaching session involve?

Coaching is a very personal partnership and every coaching program is specifically tailored to each individual client. As a result, the structure and experience of a session varies for every client.

In a basic sense, sessions focus on you setting challenging yet achievable goals and planning actions that will lead to an accomplishment of those goals.

Life Coaching clients

Sessions are usually conducted over the telephone although face-to-face sessions can be arranged for Sydney-based clients. A single session lasts 60 minutes.

Corporate clients

Sessions are conducted at your place of work and are face-to-face. A single session lasts approximately 120 minutes.

6. How long does coaching last?

Life Coaching clients

In truth, the duration of any coaching is at the client’s discretion: you can choose to stop your sessions or coaching relationship with us at any time. Your Coaching Agreement will outline these parameters.

Our coaching programs are designed over a 6 week period - experience and research shows that 6 sessions is the minimum time required to make a serious impact on your goals. Some clients take a little time to get clarity on their current situation whilst others need to change beliefs that are holding them back - these changes can take time.

Clients can of course book fewer sessions but they may find it difficult to achieve all that they want to in this time. The investment per session will also be more expensive.

Corporate clients

The duration of your coaching program will be decided with the decision maker and the Coaching Contract will outline these parameters.

7. How much does coaching cost?

Our coaching programs are tailored to suit your individual needs and requirements to ensure you obtain maximum value from your coaching and make the greatest impact on your goals.

Contact us to discuss your objectives for coaching to discuss a program best suited to your needs.

8. What does the free no-obligation life coaching session entail?

If you are serious about achieving goals that will have a positive impact on your life then coaching is for you. If you’re new to coaching and would like to experience a session for free, drop Rebecca an email to request one.

After that, if you’d like to continue to enjoy accomplishing your goals we can discuss a coaching program right for you. If you’d rather not, that’s absolutely fine; you’ll just have had a valuable experience for free.

The session itself is a taster and will take up to 60 minutes. We will discuss a relatively small challenge you are currently facing and then work on it to find ways in which it can be overcome.

9. What is your confidentiality promise?

Trust is an essential part of any coaching relationship and confidentiality is of paramount importance. Every conversation had between Rebecca and a client, whether during a session or outside of it, will remain 100% confidential.

10. What are your coaching credentials?

Rebecca is a Certified Coach and trained in London at The Coaching Academy qualifying with a Distinction Diploma, the highest accolade. The Coaching Academy is Europe’s largest coaching institution and its qualifications are internationally recognised and are endorsed by The Open College Network, The Institute of Leadership and Management and The Open and Distance Learning Quality Council.

Rebecca is also a qualified NLP Practitioner and Time-Line Therapist and trained with Gordon Young, Chairman of the Australian Board of NLP, at the Institute of Human Technology.

Rebecca also holds a BA/Hons from The University of Manchester, UK in English Literature and Philosophy.

Rebecca is a dedicated and enthusiastic cultural anthropologist, fascinated by the nuances of different cultures and the impact this has on peoples' behaviours, motivations and beliefs. One size does not fit all when it comes to personal

development and Rebecca firmly believes that an understaning of culture is essential when working to improve individual performance.

If you would like to read more about Rebecca, please visit the About Us section on this site.

11. Is coaching right for me?

The people who excel with coaching are those who want to make positive changes to their lives, are willing to be challenged by their coach and are keen to work hard to achieve what they want.

As coaching is such a personal experience, it is imperative that you feel at ease with your coach and we would recommend that you research a variety of coaches and their qualifications before making your final choice.

Should you wish to find out more about coaching or more about Rebecca, we would welcome your call.

12. Does Clear Horizon Coaching offer any guarantees?

As a coach of integrity, it would be unethical for Rebecca to say that coaching will absolutely get you the specific results you are after. Despite the fact that she will be 100% committed to ensuring your success, a great deal relies on your hard work and commitment to be the best you can possibly be.

That said, we do offer a money-back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied with the value you have obtained from your coaching within the first 2 sessions.

13. What is your mission statement?

To provide our clients with a vitally important partnership that will guide, inspire and support them towards accomplishing their most sought after goals and being the best individual they can possibly be.

14. Tell me more about the life coaching Recommendation Reward Scheme

We provide a reward scheme to our personal clients to thank them for recommending business to us:

For every person you recommend to Clear Horizon Coaching, who books a minimum of two paid-for coaching sessions, you will receive a FREE one-hour coaching session valued at AU$130!

Contact us for us for more information.

15. What are your hours of business?

We are located in Sydney, Australia but work with clients worldwide. Coaching sessions can be conducted over the telephone and we also offer e-Coaching to life coaching clients.

Contact us to discuss how coaching can work with your geographical location.

16. What is an expatriate / repatriate?

In a broad sense an expatriate (or ‘expat’) is a person temporarily or permanently residing in a country/city other than that of their home country/city. The word comes from the Latin ex (out of) and patria (country, fatherland). Expatriates are also referred to as 'skilled migrants'.

A repatriate is someone who returns to their home country, having worked on an assignment overseas on a temporary basis.

17. What is Skype?

Skype is a service that enables you to make free calls from your computer to anyone else around the world who also has Skype. All you need to get started is to download the software for free from the Skype website and to buy a headset if you want one!
